About Sascha
Sascha is a self taught artist & designer whose love of animals started as a child when her family would decamp to the foothills of Trinidad every Christmas. Living at her granny’s house in Maraval she would escape to the jungle with her older brother where every day was an adventure to rescue animals.
Since then bringing a 'voice to the voiceless' has always been her passion whether through her first career as a TV presenter, news & documentary producer, or later, as an activist helping to inspire a conscious consumer movement.
Through actions & her blog/hub called ‘Greengaged’ ( helping to discover Greta Thunberg in the process) to creating a small sustainable fashion collection Babe Rainbow, all was firmly putting the idea that people & planet must come first over profit.
“ My response to anything that upset me was to paint. Through the difficult times in life I have always been rescued by the healing power of art. I find painting truly cathartic “
Sascha’s paintings are always a direct emotional response to an animal and a “feeling” lain to paper.
Unusually her palette is often limited to 2 colours so the focus is on ‘feeling’ the animal. Her mission has always been to highlight both the beauty & vulnerability of these critically endangered species, particularly elephants, rhinos & lions & the necessity of actually defending their supremely important habitat.
Sascha spent her month long honeymoon deep in the Amazon studying animals at an Eco lodge. Trekking through the jungle, it was a surprising discovery that she was able to spot more creatures than the indigenous guide - her childhood spent in the hills of Trinidad had paid off!
This experience of coming face to face with the effects of loggers getting ever nearer to pristine habitats & age old trees, ruining the home of the tribes & polluting the river with mining where wildlife used to thrive, renewed a sense of urgency.
Transformed, she came back with a new determination that the only real answer to protecting the earth was to ‘change the system’ and put nature first in a vision of ‘conscious consumerism’ by helping pioneer a revolution that put people and planet first.

"Indigenous Peoples make up just 5% of the worlds population , yet they protect 80% of the Earth's biodiversity”
Sascha has always been passionate about helping critically endangered ‘apex’ species, such as elephants, focusing on the issue of habitat loss which is one of their biggest threats.
Coupled with poaching & the illegal wildlife trade, pressure on their survival is huge but 2022 has thrown up some good news to keep these beautiful, wild animals alive.
