Why Organic?
Organic cotton is a superpower! Hugely more ethical & sustainable to produce, it uses NO chemicals, fertilisers or pesticides, protecting local habitats, wildlife & the farmers (& families) who grow it. Plus it uses 90% LESS WATER, preserves soil quality & limits soil erosion.
By using 62% less energy to grow, it releases 1/2 the amount of CO2 than normal cotton.
Why Fairtrade?
The penny dropped for me when I realised Fairtrade is THE most beautiful equation ! It not only seeks to change an unfairly rigged system but actively pulls people out of poverty.
The fact that WE , just with our buying power, can encourage & create a new system that changes people’s lives in another country is incredible & powerful.
Fairtrade ensures that farmers & workers are safe, have good working conditions & are treated fairly in a network that is usually rife with injustice & suffering.
It is NOT Aid, it is trade that is equal & fair.
Cottonis one of the biggest crops in the world & is heavily distorted towards favouring the rich countries like the US & EU with subsidies, leaving poor cotton farmers on low income, low investment & high dependency.
Plus these families are exposed to acute pesticide poisoning, exploitation & child labour.
The Fairtrade Minimum Priceacts as a safety net for workers & protects them from fluctuations in the market place.
Fairtrade is also UNIQUE in creating benefit for all with it’s strict standards & mechanisms such as the FAIRTRADE PREMIUM.
This FAIRTRADE PREMIUM empowers farmers so they are treated well with a fair wage that creates an " extra income pot ” ploughed straight back into the community - a much needed development to protect kids & women’s rights where health issues & education can be improved for their children.
Directly helping the local community, it gives these families access to better housing, better medical facilities, schools & hospitals, especially in times of trouble.
Fairtrade stands with these marginalised, small producers caring about their social, economic & environmental wellbeing, not maximising profit at their expense.
It supports them & upholds trading practices based on long term relationships, solidarity & respect giving them power to invest in their communities & feed their children.
Why Endangered?
Sascha’s love of animals started as a child visiting granny in the hills of Trinidad. Escaping to the jungle everyday was an adventure to rescue animals. Since then she has been on a mission to raise their voice.
EACH SALE WILL HELP CRITICALLY ENDANGERED ‘APEX’ SPECIES SUCH AS RHINOS, LIONS & ELEPHANTS.
They face habitat loss, poaching & the illegal wildlife trade but conservation efforts play a crucial role in keeping these beautiful, wild animals alive.
